Protests at Shropshire stashing the cash meant for hardship relief

The Conservative-led Shropshire Council received £467,000 in 2013 from central government for its emergency welfare relief fund but has only distributed £37,000, according to a BBC report.

    It would be good to get a statement from Shropshire Council regarding these claims. On the face of it i find it very sad that this amount of money is not getting to the very people who desperately need it when faced with emergencies. Their response, justification and rationale would be most welcome … and very interesting … I await an update and thank you for bringing it to our attention

      Hi Karen, this was a link to a report by the BBC, not a story researched and written by Castle News.
      As the BBC reports, Shropshire Council has outsourced its press and public relations to a consultancy,, who are quoted in the story. This company is apparently preparing a new statement now.
