A new GP is joining Bishop’s Castle Medical Practice in the autumn, the practice’s Patients’ Group has announced.

Dr Paul Gardner, 47, is due to join the practice as a full partner with Dr Adrian Penney at the end of September. Currently he is a GP at Mytton Oak Surgery, Shrewsbury. He is also Medical Officer for Shrewsbury School and GP Clinical Lead for Learning Disabilities for Shropshire CCG. Dr Gardner is married with two teenage children.

Nick Hutchins, chair of BCPG, said: “This is good news for patients and the medical practice. It is an exciting time for the practice with the opportunity to redesign and rethink the way in which it operates and prepare it for the challenges facing general practice nationally. With a second partner – and the possibility of further partner/s in the future – Bishop’s Castle Medical Practice will be well placed to develop and continue to provide an excellent service to its registered patients.”

He said the four women locums, Drs Morton, Povey, Short and Winter, would continue holding surgeries in Bishop’s Castle. Dr Paterson is going away in July but returning in September.
